EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - Clarence Oscar "Clary" Anderson `35, former Colgate University football and baseball standout, will be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of New Jersey, on Saturday, October 1, at the Meadowlands Plaza Hotel in Secaucus, New Jersey. The induction dinner is 7 p.m.
Anderson is entering the Hall of Fame as a contributor/coach after his affiliation with Montclair, New Jersey almost his entire life.
As an undergraduate at Colgate, Anderson lettered in football and baseball. He was the leading scorer on Colgate's 1932 unbeaten, untied and unscored-on, and uninvited football team. He later was co-captain of the 1934 squad.
In baseball, Anderson had a career batting average of .414 while leading Colgate to a 41-12 record in three seasons.
A member of Colgate's Athletic Hall of Honor, Anderson became a legend as a high school football coach in New Jersey. During his 28-year career, two years at Blair Academy and 26 at Montclair High, he compiled a record of 209-23-6. In 1969, he became head football coach at Montclair State, where he led his teams to five New Jersey Athletic Conference championships and the National Small College championship.
Anderson also coached baseball at Montclair, leading his squad to two appearances in the Division III College World Series. Anderson passed away in August
